From September 15, 2025 to 31 December 2027, Russian national ordinary passport holders can travel to China for business, tourism, family visits, transit and exchange and visit purposes for up to 30 days without a visa under the newly announced visa waiver program. 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit to a third country or region (including Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan) using any mode of transport. ## Can this stay be extended from inside the country?

The 30-day visa-free entry is not routinely extendable. The Exit-Entry Administration may grant additional time only for genuine emergencies such as serious illness or a natural disaster, on a case-by-case basis.

**Cost detail.** Roughly CNY 160–200 (about USD 22–28), paid at the Public Security Bureau. Published figures start as low as CNY 50 depending on city and visa type.

**How.** Apply at the local Public Security Bureau Exit-Entry Administration before your 30 days end, with documentary proof of the emergency. Approval is not guaranteed.

**If you cannot extend.** For a planned stay beyond 30 days, apply for an L visa before travelling — an L visa can be extended once by about 30 days, a visa-free entry cannot.
