## Documents required
- Passport valid at least 3 months beyond intended departure, with 2 blank pages
- Completed and signed application form
- Two passport photographs, 35 × 45 mm, white background, taken within 3 months
- Return or onward flight reservation (booking, not necessarily a paid ticket)
- Proof of accommodation for the whole stay
- Travel medical insurance with minimum €30,000 cover, valid in all Schengen states, including repatriation
- Recent bank statements showing sufficient means (commonly guided at €50–100 per day)
- Cover letter explaining the purpose and itinerary of the trip
- Biometrics (fingerprints) — reusable for 5 years if previously given for a Schengen visa

## Notes
Holders of short stay and transit visas issued by Croatia, Cyprus and Romania can enter Bulgaria for the duration of their visa. National visas issued by Bulgaria or Schengen visas issued by a Schengen Member State in expired, full or invalidated travel documents are accepted if accompanied by a new valid travel document of the same nationality. Visitors with a family member residence card issued

Only up to the 90-days-in-180 ceiling. Going beyond it requires force majeure, and the resulting sticker is usually valid only in the country that issued it.

**Cost detail.** Free where the grounds are force majeure or humanitarian. The €30 applies to serious personal reasons, or to an entry delayed through no fault of your own.

**How.** Apply to the immigration authority of the Schengen state you are currently in — not the consulate that issued the visa — before your visa expires. An expired visa cannot be extended.

**If you cannot extend.** If you know in advance you need longer than 90 days, the route is a national long-stay (Type D) visa, applied for from outside the Schengen Area before you travel.
